We are still collecting items to assist the Pasea Fire victims

Fellow Rotarians

So far we have had tremendous support for this project by way of individual club member contributions. The families have almost completed their temporary accommodations using the material that we donated. The next stage for them will be to rebuild the structures that were destroyed.

The families have applied for government assistance for rebuilding and they have so far sought the assistance of neighbours, family members and friends to get them to the present stage. They have started clearing the burnt out rubble from the site.

They are making every effort to help themselves.

Your board of directors is considering that we adopt this as our community project and go a step further to assist the victims in their efforts to rebuild their homes. This community project would be especially appropriate as Rotary International has designated October as “Economic and Community Development” month.

Based on the funds the families expect to receive and the work involved it would seem that this would require an outlay of about $50,000 to get them to the stage of having the basic structure in place (no finishes like tiling, painting etc.)

There is still need for various household items and clothing. We plan to do another distribution this weekend and would like to appeal to members, friends and well-wishers to drop off donated items at A1 Auto Supplies on Saturday 10th October.
